This is a strange book with wierd contradictions in the story line. There may be some spoilers here, but I feel the need to explain the wierdness. When Alex is first introduced you get the impression he is a few year older than Mercy. He comforts her when she is very little and dates around waiting for her to be ready to accept his bond. Then he shows up to go to high school with her in the same grade as her. If they are the same age then all the waiting for her to grow up stuff is just odd.
Then her brothers preach honesty and how they are all about truth while lying to her about what and who she is. They don’t tell her about being a were, they don’t tell her about who her real father is, but they go off the deep end if she holds anything back from them. At least in the story the characters realize their own hypocracy, but again it is just odd.
In the language of the story there are contradictions like she ran up.the stairs and walked slowly to her room. Propositions are missing that kept causing me to go back and reread sentences to see if I missed something the first time. This book needs some serious editing not just for grammar issues but for the whole plot.
It was a very annoying read.

The Pack Born to be Were series Book 1 edition by Donna Flynn Paranormal Romance eBooks Reviews
Mercy is forced to move to another town when the bad guys come after her. Fortunately, she has two brothers and her fated mate to keep an eye on her. Will she choose the quarterback at her new school or the boy she grew up with, but hasn't seen in a year? The plot of this werewolf romance moves quickly, and has done nice surprises. However, the dialogue is a little stiff. I liked the fact that these werewolves had morals, so I'd recommend this addition to the teen paranormal romance genre. Fans of Twilight will enjoy it
Sometimes I have to wonder what era these YA authors are from. Do they even exist in the same timeframe we do. Another typical double standard between the lead characters. He gets to date as many girls as he wants while he's supposedly madly in love with her but when she dates one really nice guy to try and forget about him, then all of a sudden he's so jealous he can't handle it. At least she didn't realize she was causing him pain, while he knew all the time how much he was hurting her.
Also, what's with the claim that she wasn't old enough to be in a relationship while he was dating the other girls? They were in the same grade so they had to have been within a year of each other's age.
Same old double standard. Guy gets to do what he wants and the girl has to forgive.
OK, Mercy has a BIG problem
(Were)wolves ate her parents. No that's not really the big problem.
Her parents were werewolves. No, that's not really it either, because Mercy doesn't even know that werewolves actually exist.
No, the BIG problem is that SHE is a werewolf and will shift any day now - and not one damn person who knows her will tell her the truth. Now that is a BIG problem.
Seriously, parents that don't tell their kids that they're adopted have nothing on Mercy's family and friends. Because they don't even really worry about what will happen if she should shift say, right in the middle of the mall or something. That could be an issue.
MORONS!
As far as shifter stories go, this one was particularly ludicrous. Except that it's really good. It's well written, it holds the attention, and being that the sequel just came out I can read them piggyback and not be tormented by a cliffhanger!
Now, here is what I didn't like
The editing / proofreading was APPALLING! HORRIBLE! AWFUL! Uggghhh. So many misspelled words, missing words, extra words. It was actually quite sad. I edit. I can absolutely guarantee this was run through spell check without a human visual - too many words that were spelled incorrectly with well, correctly spelled words. Just the wrong ones (i.e. too/to, they're/their). No, no, no, no. Ms. Flynn is a good author and should use a separate editor. I just kept getting yanked out of the story with all the mistakes. Also, contractions - or the lack thereof. Americans just don't speak this way. We're an informal people, and we use contractions a lot. And teenagers even more so.
I'm going to say in advance that, since I've just about finished the sequel (and btw? Every male in these books is essentially clueless. We are not that dumb in real life, but it made for a lot of laughs) the same mistakes occur. When I read, I will excuse a few mistakes. But for this one, I'm knocking off two stars. It's probably the worst edited book I've ever read on my , and that's a shame because the author has talent. I'll still read more of her work because I do like what she has to say, but I will take Tylenol in advance.
I had to compromise with myself on how to rate this book so I decided that the story was worth 3.5 stars and the editing (or lack thereof) was worth 0 stars. Unfortunately, the book is riddled with spelling mistakes, grammatical errors and the occasional sentence structure mishap but I decided to ignore those issues and not let them bother me.
On the bright side ...I thoroughly enjoyed the story. It has a lot going for it - great characters that are well developed and extremely appealing and a good, action packed storyline. The protagonist, Mercy, is strong, loyal, feisty but vulnerable and confused and she has no clue who or what she is . The rivalry for her attention between two Alpha heirs' only intensifies her confusion as her emotions bounce from one extreme to another. Alec, her Bond Mate, is especially well written - I liked the way the author gave him a bit of a dark side. Mercy`s life begins to unravel when tragedy strikes and a secret ability is revealed. The arrival of some nasty rogues and unwelcome family cause even more trouble for Mercy and her brothers who find themselves threatened by a familiar & hated enemy. When Mercy`s heritage is thrust upon her with no warning, she reacts badly and with near fatal consequences. The question is, will she be able to forgive those who deceived her - we shall see.
The Pack is a good read even with the spelling & grammar issues. I intend to purchase the next installment - I really want to know what happens next with these characters.
